What is Food2live?

Food2live is an interactive computer programme designed as a self-help measure to control and record an individual ‘users’ food and beverage intake.
The major objectives are to reduce the incidence of blood glucose levels 'spiking', and to control overall body weight.
The programme contains thousands of individual food ingredients, and hundreds of recipes from which to choose. Enjoy hassle-free shopping as Food2live creates a shopping list from your personally chosen menu.

  • Food2live’s programme does not contain specific advice as to what users should, or should not, eat or drink. It encourages the use of a low Glycemic Load regime.
  • Food2live is a calculator with a very large database, designed to help create balanced daily menus under instructions and/or guidance from health professionals, and to individually record them.
  • The database consists of thousands of individual food and beverage items, analysed and stored under 11 different nutrient category headings.
  • The Glycemic Index’s (GI) of ingredients containing significant amounts of carbohydrate are in the database. Ingredients with low amounts of carbohydrate do not have a GI. For a complete definition of the Glycemic Index, visit Prof. Jenny Brand Miller's website.
  • Food2live calculates, and shows cumulatively, the 11 nutrients as the daily menu is being constructed. This gives the user the ability to control separately their personal requirements for calories, carbohydrates, proteins, fats, cholesterol, fibre, sodium etc. in each and every menu.
  • In addition to showing the nutrients, Food2live calculates the Glycemic Load of each recipe. The amount of carbohydrate in all ingredients used in each and every recipe are individually multiplied by the Glycemic Index / 100. This produces the GL. (The New Glucose Revolution by Prof. Jennie Brand Miller et al)
  • Although the recipes in the database are predominantly made with a significant proportion of low GI ingredients, consideration is given for specific menu requirements such as high or low carbohydrate, high or low protein, low fat, low sodium etc. This feature accommodates 'food combiners' and athletes.
  • Each ‘user’ of Food2live is encouraged to submit their own individual recipes, low GI or not, so they may be aware of the GL, and the nutrients contained in the ‘dish’.
  • Food2live allows ‘users’ to nominate food ingredients, which they 'like' and 'dislike'. The programme notes these individual preferences, and responds accordingly when recipe selections are being made. This feature was built with allergy sufferers in mind.
  • When the menu selections are made by the ‘user’, the programme produces a printable menu, and a shopping list. However, Food2Live will not proceed unless 5 servings of fruit and/or vegetables have been included for each day.
